The Bolivar Blueprint Steering Committee will have an open house from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday April 28 2009 at Crenshaw Elementary and Middle School, 416 state Highway 87.
Visitors can view displays on education, housing, the environment, economic development and small businesses, parks, human services and infrastructure. Comment cards will be available, and people will be asked to comment about proposed recovery projects.
Additionally, people are invited to bring a favorite photo of Bolivar Peninsula for use on a display board and for possible inclusion in the final Bolivar Blueprint plan. E-mail photos to john.simsen(at)co.galveston.tx.us.
A public hearing is set for 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. April 28 at Crenshaw School to get additional comments. Residents can visit at any time during the hearing to speak, complete comment cards or visit with project coordinators.
“We encourage citizens to take advantage of the open house, the public hearing or both to help Bolivar Peninsula residents develop an effective blueprint for recovery,” County Commissioner Patrick Doyle said. “The county has organized the recovery project, but all of the project ideas and suggestions will come from the members of the subcommittees and the general public.”
- A team of consultants provided by the Federal Emergency Management Agency is helping the county with development of the Bolivar Blueprint.
- Comments and ideas from the public will become part of the record and will be considered in development of the strategic plan.
- The public’s comments will be included in a draft of Bolivar Blueprint.
- Additional public meetings will be scheduled to get comments on the draft.
- For information, call 281-309-5002.
What should Bolivar Peninsula look
like as it rebuilds after Hurricane
Ike?
- Should the policy favor highend
development, with strict standards to
ensure new houses are built to withstand the
strongest storm?
- If the highest standards are
required, will the little guys be forced out?
- What about the future of ambulance
and fire services on the peninsula?
- What
about public education?
- Is the peninsula
best served by being divided between the
Galveston and High Island school districts?
- Is the storm an opportunity to find a way
to provide important public services more
efficiently?
Peninsula residents lost a lot to Hurricane
Ike. They have a huge job of rebuilding.
They also have some opportunities to rebuild
in different — perhaps better — ways.
Peninsula residents who’d like to be part
of the discussion have two immediate opportunities.
The Bolivar Blueprint Steering Committee
will have an open house from 9 a.m. to
5 p.m. Saturday at Crenshaw School, 416
state Highway 87.
It’s an opportunity to see what people are
proposing in several areas, including housing,
education, economic development, parks and
infrastructure.
Those who attend can talk to committee
members and fill out comment cards.
The public will get another chance to comment
at a hearing from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Tuesday at Crenshaw School.
With so much property lost, with so many
people displaced, the peninsula will be a different
place when it’s rebuilt.
If you want a say in what it will look like,
don’t miss this chance. |

I would like to know who is on this so called list. All I have heard is it is a bunch of people that really doesn't give a flip about Bolivar. Who need to be on this list is the people that has lived there all there life. Not a bunch of summer home campers, and people that come down on weekends and party. |
