The Laguna Harbor Coastal Cottages are strong enough to survive a hurricane, and are built and installed using skyscraper inspired technologies.
We got to see them installed on October 9th 2007 at Laguna Harbor. These homes are also being installed in Gilchrist at Audubon Village and in several other areas on the Bolivar Peninsula. These homes are certified hurricane resistant by the I.B.H.S
Once finished, these "hurricane resistant" homes can withstand a Category 4 storm, said Mike Stuart, marketing coordinator for Crown Team Texas, developer of the Laguna Harbor project at Port Bolivar. Fortifying the home is in the details, like the concrete and steel foundation. Other considerations are columns, wind rating on shingles, the brand of windows and doors, and metal clips to anchor the frame, said Mike Blount, a senior project manager with Crown Team Construction. "These are pretty tough houses," Blount said. |
