Thank you from President of GCA Wednesday, September 14, 2011

The Gilchrist Community Association (GCA) would like to thank all of
the fellow citizens of Bolivar Peninsula for their overwhelming
support for our Legal Defense Fundraiser. Rollover Pass has a lot of
history and is enjoyed by thousands of fisherman, weekenders and
overnighters who support local businesses throughout the peninsula
while they are here and are vital to all of our financial growth.  I
can say without any reservation that our Golf Cart Fish Fry Fundraiser
was successful and we could not have done it without you.

One of the GCA’s missions is to provide community services and on
Saturday, we prepared 50 fish fry plates and delivered them to the
employees of  Gulf Coast Market who were unable to attend because they
were at work providing services to the visitors of the peninsula. We
are looking forward to providing other services in the near future.

Once again, thank you Bolivar Peninsula!

Sincerely,
Ted Vega
President, Gilchrist Community Association

Governor [Noteworthy] We Built A Stronger Texas
9/16/2014 7:32:51 AM When it comes to building a thriving economy that benefits citizens across the board, Texas has taken an approach that is as simple as it is revolutionary: put people – employers and employees alike – in the best possible position to succeed, and then get out of the way.
Governor [Noteworthy] Education Key To Continued Texas Prosperity
9/16/2014 7:32:51 AM Texas has created a business climate unrivaled in the nation. We have low taxes, fair courts, reasonable and predictable regulations and a commitment to practicing the kind of fiscal conservatism that leaves money on the table at the end of the biennium.
TGC Avoid Housing Crunch By Employing A Sound Strategy

Baby Boomers Need To Plan and Strategize To Overcome Increasing Housing Costs in Retirement

Those American Baby Boomers born between 1946 and 1964 are facing some pretty serious issues in the foreseeable future none of which are as daunting as the cost of housing in their retirement years.

Notwithstanding the estimated costs of $220,000 a couple will need in retirement for health care costs housing costs will dwarf that number as most experts believe that boomers will be forced to spend in excess of 30% of their monthly incomes supporting their abodes.  The struggle is just beginning because housing costs, both for ownership and for rentals, is skyrocketing throughout the country.

TGC It Is Now Officially Impossible To Unplug On Vacation
9/15/2014 8:20:12 AM

We know device addiction is a major problem in travel (and in life in general). A walloping 46 percent of working leaders continue to answer office emails while on vacation -- and as a culture, we just can't seem to unplug.

Michael Stuart's insight:
Unplug On Vacation

We know device addiction is a major problem in travel (and in life in general).

If you can't part with all your technology and goodies and general STUFF, you can now access all of it whilst you lounge!

If you can't tell, we find the whole concept just a liiittle bit embarrassing.

  • PoolSafe is a personal poolside safe box that's springing up in resorts worldwide. The box debuted in May at a Hyatt Regency in California and has since been integrated at select Westins and Marriotts.
  • PoolSafe is more than just a safe -- the gadget has GPS-tracking capabilities, cup holders for your cocktails and a call button for hotel food and beverage staff.
  • The box can wheel right up next to your chair, ready to cater to any and all plugged-in needs you may have while on your "getaway" from the real world.
  • Bobby Genovese, one of the project's investors, says orders are rolling in for the PoolSafe.

All we see is the need for a major digital detox.

Swedes 40 Years and Counting by Georgia Osten
7/23/2012 2:18:00 PM by Georgia Osten The Walla Family blew into town last Monday for their 40th Annual Crystal Beach Vacation. Yes, Mildred and Johnnie Walla and family have been coming to Crystal Beach every summer for the last 40 years! Mildred remembers coming with her father when she was in high school in Beaumont. To celebrate the event, they had special t-shirts printed. They always plan their vacation for the week after the 4th, because "the crowds are smaller." Their first vacation rental was handled by Mr. Swede himself, and they have been coming back to Swede's Real Estate ever since.
