Why are the beaches not policed better? You can't get a sheriff deputy within a 2 hr time. or never! The Hispanics come over and take over the beach at Port Bolivar. We pay taxes for protection and get Nothing in return as we are swarmed by non-English speaking thieves coming on decks taking our fishing gear, Why do the deputies tell them to go to the spot between the Jetty and the fort? Telling them that area is free! We paid about 3000.00 for a week of hell there in Aug. this yr. We also own a home there on the ship channel side. We had to pull Mexicans off Jet Sky's. A boat nearly stolen. and no 911 answers to calls! As a Tax payer I wont services. Where is our protection? riding back and forth on the ferry and looking cute? Not!!!!!!!!!! We need enforcement on the beaches. The 10.00 dollars we pay and a poor older woman trying to collect this is so silly. Put a fee daily on these people who don't live on the Peninsula and Urinate , have bowel movements, undress, Steel come into the private property and take anything they can. Pay no fees and leave the trash for owners to clean up. We are a growing area but this stops people who spend money from coming. Get this fixed!

Our family also ran into the same problems and I also think there should be a daily fee so the trash and "Muck" could be cleaned from the beaches. There should be parking places and no driving if they will not comply with the law. We have a wonderful place here to be trashed by uncaring trash. We do not receive the sheriffs protection as we should. The ferries are operated by the state and they should police them. "Texas Highway Dept."
Clean our beaches up! Why should it take a hurricane to do that? People using them should be fined for the litter. If there are going to be people camping "ON THE BEACH" furnish them toilets. I for one am not happy to see them using the beach as they do in Mexico. Just take a dump in the water or on the beach. Is there any wonder people are developing diseases. We must have some order and protection for citizens. Galveston has no driving on beach. We must do something! times are changing. You can't trust people as before. Houses are broken into, Women raped and murdered, things stolen and it isn't our locals. It is best to get ahead before it gets any worse.
Make the beaches pay for themselves. Police the non-compliance and the cause of the trouble. This is not little Mexico and free to destroy. I commend the People for the clean up. but what about the home owners where the trash washed from the Beach before the clean-up? They have a job ahead of them. I liked one woman's statement that she had no trouble in Port Bolivar near the beach . "I have a fence and 5 big dogs" (I thought we were alowed 4" LOL! Maybe we do need the dogs patrolling the beach. We need to take care of this before it takes care of us even more. Put our taxes to work for us here also the Beach fees.

The following is a comment regarding the condition of the beach at 2408 Highway 87 , Gilchrist posted by a recent vacation renter.
At 3/23/2008 9:24 PM a comment was posted to your article Connollyville Too - Gilchrist - Beachfront.
House was ok. Was very sad to see the beach littered with everything from broken beer bottles, medical needles, rope and plastic bottles. Family spent hours everyday cleaning up beach. 8 large trash bags full. Wished every visitor to the area would do the same.

Why are registered utility vehicles getting tickets for riding on the beaches. There is a Sgt. Hudson that writes tickets everytime someone rides a registered utility vehicle on the beach. It has already been hashed out in the courts that these vehicles are legal and can be ridden on any streed or highway in the state of Texas except a freeway or interstate. He continues writting tickets and telling people he will do this "just because he can" and them telling them after they expain that their vehicle is register, licesned and insured to take it up with the judge. These Mules, Rangers, Rhinos, Gators etc. are registered as slow moving vehicles and his is writing these tickets just because he feels he is above the law. This must be stopped before some angry law abiding citizen takes out their aggressions out on him. Please look into this matter. |

I wanted to repost what happened to us on Sunday, May 25th onto this thread. I am at a loss for what I can do here. I want to file a complaint with the Galveston County Sheriffs dept but don't want to get into a big legal debate. I tried to explain to Officer Hudson that I am fully legal to drive my mule but he never even looked at my registration or insurance. He even told my wife that we must have lied to get the mule registered in Chambers County, because it was impossible to register them. If he would have looked at my registration, he would have seen that the kawasaki mule comes from the factory not to exceed 25 mph, thus putting it directly into the slow moving vehicle UTV category. It has been registered and plated since early 2007 and we just renewed it for this year. We were ticketed for operating an atv on a roadway, but we never even drove the mule. We unloaded it from the trailer, but never even drove it 1 foot. When we informed Officer Hudson that we had just arrived and we haven't even driven the mule ( I even showed him the tire tracks), he said yeah, but you were fixing to. We saw many other mule type vehicles and very few with plates. We asked why they were not being stopped and he told me a story about how when you go fishing, you can't catch all the fish. I had read Craig Eiland's letter before we drove an hour and a half to make sure we'd be able to ride the mule. I think I was given the ticket just because I questioned Officer Hudson's interpretation of the law regarding utility vehicles.
Here is my post from the other thread.
I thought we had some resolution on this, but I guess I was wrong. Today, my wife and I loaded up the trans mule (fully registered, plated and insured), put $90.00 of diesel in the truck, drove an hour and a half to Crystal Beach, went into The Big Store and purchased 2 beach parking passes, 1 for the mule and 1 for the truck, the time was 1:50 pm. We then proceeded to the beach to find a parking spot. It was very crowded today. We finally found a spot to park, I disconnected the tie downs for the mule and backed it off the trailer. My wife and I were in the process of loading our chairs, ice chest, etc into the mule so we could cruise up and down the beach when an officer D. Hudson from the Galveston County Sheriffs office pulls beside our stationary mule and informs us that we can no longer ride it on the beach. I let officer Hudson know that my mule is registered as a slow moving vehicle, has proper plates, insurance and the newly purchased parking pass on it. He proceeds to ask me for my name, address, etc and writes me a ticket for operating an atv on a roadway. The time was 2:15 pm, exactly 25 minutes from the time I purchased my parking pass. I inform him that we had just arrived, and that we only backed the mule from the trailer, that we were not operating an atv and that it wasn't on a roadway. He said I needed to talk to the judge. I was not rude to him in any way and I also have witnesses. All we could after that was load up the mule and drive home. Our Memorial day was not very memorial at all. Now I face a court date and I intend on fighting this ticket. Please let this be a warning to anyone thinking this issue has been resolved. I learned the hard way and other than my court date I will never frequent Crystal Beach again. |
